Double up on great news. Not only is one of Denmark’s best museums, Kunsten in Aalborg, opening up its doors again after a yearlong renovation. We also get to bring a little something to the party. To commemorate this grand re-opening, Mads Nørgaard has had the distinct pleasure of designing the new work uniforms for the employees at Kunsten.
When asked to come up with the design, Mads Nørgaard chose to rethink the often quite unambitious approach to workplace uniforms. And inspired by the stunning, sleek Alvar Aalto building that houses Kunsten, as well as uniforms from the archives, he came up with a stylish black turtleneck sweater with subtle white stripes.
“For me it was important that the design was both simple and at the same time had a certain authority. And of course the uniform also must be able to play against Alvar Aalto's unique design. That’s why I chose black and decided to add the very simple stripe,” explains Mads Nørgaard.
Besides fashion, art is something we care dearly about at Mads Nørgaard, and we feel that fashion and art goes as well together as anything. Add to the fact that it all comes together in this incredibly beautiful Aalto building, and this partnership just felt like the perfect match.
When asked about the motivation behind this design, Mads Nørgaard says:
“I’m a huge fan of Aalto’s work. An inspiration, that’s reflected throughout the design and layout of our store in Copenhagen. It’s also important for us to show that even though we are called Mads Nørgaard Copenhagen, we are just as much Made in Denmark.”
Kunsten is re-opening on January 23 2016 and from this day forward the lovely and knowing employees will be wearing their new uniforms as well. We can’t wait to see them in action.
